Round the Bridges likely to sell out for its 70th birthday celebration
Organisers of this year’s Round the
Bridges fun-run event are excited about high participation
numbers for event day next Sunday and say it’s on track to
be a sell-out.
Waikato’s most iconic fun-run event is capped at 6,800 entries for adults and children and already 4,800 tickets have been allocated.
Event director Kevin Endres says he’s extremely pleased to see that the event is on everyone’s radar especially as it celebrates its 70th anniversary.
“Traditionally we see tickets fly out the door two weeks before event day. This year, we’ve already surpassed last year’s participation of 4,200. If the popularity continues I’m not sure we’ll be able to meet demand.
“With our major birthday celebrations, we’re giving away medals to everyone who crosses the finish line and we’ve also got $70,000 up for grabs in our spot prizes draw,” Endres says.
The majority of Round the Bridges participants come from the within the Waikato region.
“It’s a great opportunity for locals to be active within their own community by exploring the heart of Hamilton on foot. The course takes participants over three of our unique bridges without the hassle of cars. It’s a day that’s all about participants and supporters involved in the event,” Endres says.
Out on course are kids; students, mums with buggies, dads, grandparents, wheelchair participants and running legends who take part in the 2km, 6km or 12km course, running competitively or walking socially. Dogs also make an appearance too.
Participants enjoy dressing up, wear race timing chips, experience on-course musical entertainment, spot prizes, kids play areas and post-event entertainment.
Established in 1945 by the Hamilton Harrier Club (now Hamilton Hawks), Round the Bridges started out as a road race that showcased NZ's top athletes including; Barry Magee, Peter Snell and Dick Quax.
