Lifting Diners to New Heights
Twelve diners were treated to a dinner like no other last night, eating Italian fare eight meters in the sky on top of
industrial scissor lifts.
The guests, who won seats on a Trade Me auction or through various giveaways, began the evening with wine before being
risen high into the sky to enjoy the views of the Skytower and city skyline.
One couple celebrated their first wedding anniversary on top of the Hirepool lift, which was decorated in fairy lights.
The weather remained clear for the evening, allowing the diners to enjoy the picturesque views and the exceptional
Italian food.
“It was amazing. A money can't buy experience,” said Jess, who won the competition though a giveaway.
The event was to celebrate the rebranding of the Uptown area, which encompasses Grafton, Newton and Eden Terrace.
Gary Holmes, the manager of the Uptown Business Association, was pleased that the daring event ran smoothly.
“This was a fantastic event that epitomises everything about Uptown – fine dining in an up and coming area of Auckland
in a way that has never been done before”, says Gary.
“We were also pleased to be able to use this event to highlight and support the Friend's of St David's campaign to save
their historic church building.
We were extremely fortunate to work with a talented group of third year students from AUT University who brought what
was possibly a crazy idea to fruition and in the process put Uptown on the map.”
