Historic Jubilee Clock Tower ticks back into action
Mayor Lianne Dalziel will officially unveil the newly restored Jubilee Clock Tower tomorrow.
An event to celebrate the restoration of the historic clock tower, corner of Montreal and Victoria Streets, will be held
on Wednesday 22 October.
The clock tower was significantly damaged in the February 2011 earthquake. A comprehensive repair, restoration and
strengthening project began in March 2013.
Mayor Dalziel will also bury a time capsule on the site during the event. The time capsule will include a number of
items, including newspapers that were in the original time capsule found on site during the clock tower's restoration;
photographs and newspapers from the 2013 visit to the site by Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall;
information about the Canterbury Earthquakes and the clock tower's restoration; letters from school children and
historical images.
WHAT: An event to celebrate the restoration of the Jubilee Clock Tower.
WHO: Mayor Lianne Dalziel, with the help of Christchurch school children Matty Barr and Isabella Leighs, will place a
time capsule on the site and cut the ribbon on the restored clock tower. There will be opportunities to interview Mayor
Dalziel and David Adamson, Director of Council Facilities and Infrastructure.
