Town Basin proposals reach second stage

Town Basin proposals reach second stage

Four proposals for the development of the old NRC site at the Town Basin have reached the second stage of Whangarei District Council’s assessment process.

Council received 21 proposals for the site ranging from very large and detailed documents to ideas comprising less than a page.

“Council’s 20/20 Inner City Revitalisation Committee met today (subs: Thursday 16 October) and gave due consideration to all proposals,” said Cr Phil Halse, Chair of the 20/20 Inner City Revitalisation Committee.

“We compared them against the assessment matrix, with only four meeting all criteria and able to move through to the next stage in the process.

“The calibre of these four proposals was outstanding, and they definitely merit further consideration.”

A Council workshop will be held on 22 October to discuss the proposals and the matter will then be taken to an Extraordinary Council meeting on 29 October.

“I’m more than pleased with the process to this point, and its outcome,” Cr Halse said.

“I’m now looking forward to the second workshop stage when we can examine the successful proposals in greater depth.”
