Call for further investigation of Aotea fault

Call for further investigation of Aotea fault

Wellington Employers’ Chamber of Commerce has joined calls for further investigations of the newly discovered Aotea fault under Lambton Harbour.

President John Milford said though the discovery changed very little, it is now essential that as much as possible is learned about the fault.

“The Mayor has called for further investment in the ‘It’s Our Fault’ research programme, which is jointly funded by the council, the region’s Civil Defence Group, EQC, and ACC, and we would support that.

“The fact that we are getting better at identifying where fault lines are gives us greater resilience to effectively manage them.

“This discovery should make no difference to life in Wellington – apart from acting as a further reminder that we should be prepared.
“The way business picked itself and moved on very quickly after the earthquakes last year showed that we are a resilient lot and take it in our stride.

“It’s about being prepared, getting ready and getting through. We welcome all further efforts to ensure the capital city’s resilience.”
