Hit & Run crash - Cromwell - Southern

Hit & Run crash - Cromwell - Southern

Cromwell Police are appealing for the sighting of a white utility following a vehicle collision in the Kawarau Gorge at about 12:40pm today.

A silver Mazda Hatchback travelling towards Queenstown was struck by the utility that was travelling in the opposite direction after it had crossed the centre line.

The impact caused substantial damage to the drivers side of the Mazda, and a young child seated in the right rear seat narrowly avoided injury.

The Utility failed to stop however, and continued on towards Cromwell.

Constable Dean SCHRODER of the Cromwell Police said, "The collision opened the Mazda like a tin, and it would seem likely the driver of the utility would have been aware of the contact".

It is believed a number of other vehicles may have witnessed the collision and are urged to contact Police with any information as to the whereabouts or identity of the white utility.

The utility is described as being well-side and possibly a Toyota Hilux.

Any Information to Constable Dean SCHRODER of the Cromwell Police on 021 190 5626 or.
