Foetus found in water treatment plant
Christchurch Police are investigating the discovery of a foetus found in the Christchurch Wastewater Treatment Plant at
approximately 10.50am yesterday (1 October).
It is likely that the mother was in the mid-term of her pregnancy (estimated between 20-30 weeks).
The plant, located in Bromley, processes sewage (which is almost all water) from over 100 pumping stations across the
city. It is likely the foetus entered the system 4-6 hours before it was discovered.
There are no indications at this stage that anything suspicious has occurred but Police are concerned that the woman may
need medical assistance and hope to identify her and confirm she has received the care she may need.
