5 Year old washed off rocks
Today [Wednesday October 1] at 11:15 am, the Trustpower TECT rescue helicopter and Rotorua’s BayTrust rescue helicopter were dispatched to mount Maunganui where a 5 year old boy was washed off the rocks by a large wave. Two girls were also washed off the rocks but made it ashore and were treated by St John paramedics. The search included around the base of Mount Maunganui, harbour entrance and matakana Island. Surf lifesavers in IRB’s, Coastgaurd and police were involved. Due to the large sea swells, searching was difficult and at the time of this release, the boy had not been found.
Philips Search and Rescue Trust is a charitable organisation, operating rescue helicopters throughout the Central North Island. Philips Search and Rescue Trust relies on support from principal sponsors and community donations. Special thanks to Tauranga’s principal sponsors, Trustpower and TECT. This crucial financial support ensures our rescue helicopters can continue to bring life-saving equipment, rescue personnel and trauma-trained medics directly to the patient.
