District Plan Review Submissions Closing Next Week
Just one week remains for people to make a submission on the stage one chapters of the Christchurch City Council’s new
Proposed Replacement District Plan.
The deadline for public submissions is 5pm Wednesday 8 October 2014 and 147 submissions have been received so far.
The District Plan sets the district’s long term land use policy framework, as well as the rules to guide development.
The chapters making up the first stage of the review were publicly notified and opened for public submissions on 27
August. The submissions will be published on 22 October and further submissions will be called for then – with a closing
date of Thursday 6 November 2014.
“The District Plan affects how we all live and work in our district by determining where residential areas, businesses
and different activities can occur; what you can do with your property and what your neighbour can do with theirs,” says
Brigitte de Ronde, City Planning Unit Manager.
“This review is particularly important given the growth and the issues we face in the wake of the earthquakes. This is
an important opportunity to have a say on the future of our district and we have been greatly encouraged by the many
thousands of people who have come to our drop in sessions, used our website to see how their property will be affected,
and phoned or emailed us with questions about what this means for them,” says Brigitte de Ronde.
To see how your property will be affected by the plan’s proposals and to make a submission, visit
proposeddistrictplan.ccc.govt.nz or pick up a submission form from any Council service centre or library.
An independent hearings panel will hear submissions and make decisions on the plan, with appeals on those decisions
being limited to points of law only. The hearings are expected to be late this year/early 2015, with dates still to be
confirmed.
The Replacement District Plan will be completed by April 2016.
