Update - Motor vehicle crash on SH1 at Waikuku

Police can confirm that a 19 year old man has been flow to Christchurch Hospital in a critical condition following a three-vehicle crash on SH1 outside the Waikuku Z Service Station at approximately 3.30pm today. A mother and young child and another teenager have been taken to Christchurch Hospital with minor injuries.
Emergency services are working to clear the area and hope to have SH1 fully open in the next couple of hours.
Police investigations are ongoing into the cause of the crash.
Police urge the public to allow extra time on their commute home and where possible stay away from the area.
A further update is not likely to be made until tomorrow.
