New online Sustainable Events Calendar is live

The new online Sustainable Events Calendar www.sustainableevents.org.nz is now officially up and running.

The calendar is an important new resource for publicizing all kinds of sustainability events and activities throughout the Waikato region.

It is free to use for community groups, businesses and individuals, and includes events throughout the greater Waikato region, from Coromandel to Mokau and Taumarunui.

“The Sustainable Events Calendar is a major hub for people to find out about local sustainability activities and organizations,” says Waikato Environment Centre manager Ruth Seabright, who has been assisting with the development of the new calendar.

The Sustainable Events Calendar is managed by the Waikato Environment Centre and supported in a co-operative venture between four councils – Hamilton City Council, Waikato and Waipa District Councils and Waikato Regional Council.

There is no charge to list events. The range of categories includes business and sustainability, community gardening, natural restoration, education, community wellbeing, funding and awards, waste and resource efficiency and animals and monitoring. The calendar will also include international events.

In keeping with the sustainability objectives, the Sustainable Events Calendar is hosted by a solar powered server. It has been designed by Dori Media, Waikato-based web designers who are members of the Sustainable Business Network and the Get Sustainable Challenge.

The Sustainable Events Calendar will be officially launched at the Open Day for the Waikato Environment Centre’s new premises on October 4th.
