AUCKLAND COUNCIL CAN'T HIKE RATES SO WANTS TO INTRODUCE NEW ONES
26 SEPTEMBER 2014
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Responding to the NZ Herald report that Aucklanders could face new charges or taxes to fund Len Brown’s $12 billion-plus transport funding gap, Taxpayers’ UnionExecutive Director Jordan Williams says:
“Len Brown’s administration appears to be warming up Auckland ratepayers to the idea that their wallets are going to take a further hit.”
“This looks to be a sneaky attempt by the Council to get around Len Brown’s promise of no new rates increases above 2.5 per cent."
“If they think that this is going to fly with Aucklanders already feeling the pinch from high rates and a bloated council, they have their heads in a tunnel. Auckland ratepayers weren’t born yesterday.”
