Gigatown Nelson support comes from across the globe
French fan wins latest competition and will visit Nelson next year
A woman from northern France helped get the Gigatown Nelson effort across the line and into the finals.
Marie Justin won the latest social media competition meant to drum up international support for Gigatown Nelson. More than 1,000 entries were received from 41 different countries.
The prize included NZ$4,000 toward air travel, NZ$1,000 spending money, campervan rental, an Interislander Ferry pass, accommodation, and activity passes to places like the Abel Tasman National Park.
Marie says she can’t wait to visit Nelson next March with her brother.
“I’m a huge fan of New Zealand thanks to the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit – going there is a dream come true!”
Marie won by signing up and choosing to support Nelson. She then completed the online quiz and was in to win the grand prize.
Glenda Buschl of the Gigatown Nelson campaign team says she can’t believe how many people across the globe have become supporters of Nelson’s social media effort.
“Through Facebook and Twitter we knew we had a vocal group posting frequently with #gigatownnsn, but this competition really brought out people from across the globe, we’ve been blown away. We owe a huge vote of thanks to all the organisations who sponsored the prizes and made this possible.”
Entrants represented six of the seven continents - Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Europe, and Australia –coming from China, India, the UK and US as well as the Bahamas, Albania, Uruguay and even Burma and the Maldives.
The Gigatown Nelson team is currently working on another set of exciting prizes for some more competitions to attract even more supporters, which adds to the overall score.
The international competition was held alongside local and national competitions, whose winners are as follows:
• National travel competition (including accommodation, return flights to Nelson and tourist activities): Courtney Harland, Auckland
• Gigatown Nelson Quiz competition: Lazerbike – Janice Ann Foster Rangiora
• Gigatown Nelson Supporters competition:
Moto G Smartphone: Daniel Leaper
YMCA Raise Up double pass: Owen Jemmett
YMCA Halloween double pass: Jordan Bostock
