HUTT CITY COUNCIL NEWS RELEASE
23 September 2014
Manager appointed for first Hutt City Public Art Festival
Planning for Hutt City’s inaugural public art festival, Common Ground, will start now that a project manager has been appointed.
Jo Mair is an experienced public art festival project manager who has worked closely with artists, councils and contractors to help realise artists’ proposals.
Pippa Sanderson, Community Arts and Culture Advisor says, “Jo’s former work on SCAPE Public Art and FESTA in Christchurch mean she has the skills and experience to work alongside Council and our selection panel to produce an incredible festival for Hutt City.”
The first
Common Ground festival will be run over February and
March 2015 and is planned as a biennial event alternating
with Banks Shoes Shapeshifter.
Common Ground will feature temporary public art artwork in the central city from established ‘draw-card’ artists as well as local artists and community art groups.
Work will range from self-funded to commissioned, in response to proposals received and selected by the Common Ground selection panel.
A programme of artist talks and master classes from visiting artists will provide professional development and networking opportunities for the local arts community.
