Ice Age hits Hamilton with ground-breaking entertainment concept
A new concept in family entertainment launches in Hamilton today showcasing revolutionary technology not seen anywhere
else in the mini golf space within Australasia. Ice Age, an 18 hole mini golf course themed on the Ice Age period offers
a mini golf experience like no other; utilising animatronic technology to create a unique and exciting entertainment
option for all ages.
A vastly divergent experience from the previous mini golf course that it replaces, the course has three zones - ‘Black
light’, ‘Ice’, and ‘Dinosaur’. Mini-golfers will navigate from hole to hole amongst incredibly life-like animated
Mammoths, Woolly Rhino’s, Irish Elks, Sabre tooth tigers and dinosaurs that move and roar as you pass. There is also a
resident cave man!
The entrepreneurs bringing this ground-breaking concept to Hamilton, and New Zealand, are kiwi brothers, Hamish and
Ollie Fraser. The Gisborne born brothers own the Lilliputt brand which has two other courses in Auckland with a fourth
venue under construction.
“We are very excited to be the first on the scene in New Zealand with this technology. This course is truly the best
mini golf experience in the country, and you can take it from me, as I have done the research and played almost every
mini golf course there is!” says Ollie.
Each of the Lilliputt courses has its own identity and delivers a bespoke experience. The Fraser brothers spent weeks
designing and planning the course with a huge amount of attention to detail. All the props for the Hamilton site were
custom made specifically.
A project like this takes more than just a team of two to pull off and Ollie and Fraser were lucky enough to have the
support of Seth Bird – their “go to guy for building and contraption creation.” Seth, 72, who has been working with the
guys since their first course build in 2007 said: “it’s a big job to create a course on this scale. There’s been a lot
of head scratching and hard yakka but it all pays off when you see the enjoyment it brings.”
The Ice Age centre is open 7 days from 10am – 9pm. Entry price is $15 for adults and $12 for children, seniors and
students. A family pass is just $45.
Fifty percent of all proceeds on opening day will be donated to the Waikato SPCA.
