Changing or new traffic management
Riccarton/ Ilam – Kahu Road traffic closure for eight weeks from 22 September
Kahu Road (the link between Kotare St near the university/ Medbury Boys School corner and Kilmarnock St/Hagley Park) will be closed for eight weeks for the brick arched bridge outside Christchurch Boys’ High to be repaired.
Please expect Fendalton Road and also Riccarton Road to be much busier for the next two months. ONGOING WORK – Central City
Moorhouse Ave similar setup continuing – reduced lanes westbound
• The work in the westbound lanes between Durham and Antigua has a few more weeks to go. Durham St intersection at Moorhouse south is one way southbound only. The northbound lane on the overbridge from Sydenham is closed.
• Durham St intersection at Moorhouse south from Monday 29 September will be closed at night and back to one way southbound only.
Tuam St, east side
Tuam St, between Barbadoes St and Fitzgerald Ave, is getting a new road surface as all the pipes are now in place. Asphalting is taking place at night with two-way traffic maintained. http://strongerchristchurch.govt.nz/work/activity/5585
Antigua St - Tuesday change at Halkett St intersection
Antigua St will be open, however the Halkett St/Antigua St intersection will be controlled by stop/go on Tuesday 23 September.
Welles, Southwark, and Madras Streets near the CPIT
Reduced lanes continue in these streets.
Madras St (one-way north)
Madras St is reduced to one lane in more than one place between Moorhouse and Bealey Ave. New work starts north of the river and into Peterborough St from mid September, for two months. http://strongerchristchurch.govt.nz/work/activity/5560

Humphreys Drive/ Linwood Ave, Ferrymead – night work and detour, five more weeks

Springfield Road, St Albans, between Radnor and Kinloch Streets

Linwood, Aldwins Road
Aldwins Road will be reduced to one lane southbound at the Marcroft St intersection for two weeks.
Linwood - Ensors Road at Laurence St

North Linwood/ Wainoni - Kerrs Road one way northbound
Kerrs Road, between Wildwood Ave and Wainoni Rd, will be one-way northbound towards Wainoni Rd. Southbound motorists will be detoured via Pannell Ave.http://strongerchristchurch.govt.nz/work/activity/5531 Work in the roundabout at Woodham Road will follow this segment of work.
Aranui/ Wainoni update – expect delays Cuthberts
• Shortland St, between Wainoni and Pages Roads, is one-way east ie towards Pages.
• Cuthberts Road work is in progress so please expect delays along this road between now and the end of this year. Wastewater chambers of vacuum systems are being installed and new pipes. http://strongerchristchurch.govt.nz/work/activity/5523
Bromley lift stations Maces Road and Wickham St
New wastewater lift stations are being installed on Maces Road and Wickham St. Two-way traffic using traffic lights will be used on Maces Road but one way on Wickham St.
Rowan Ave, Aranui
Vacuum wastewater work that was delayed along Rowan Ave, south of Pages Rd, has started. There will be a detour for northbound traffic and a road closure at some point. http://strongerchristchurch.govt.nz/work/activity/5563
UPCOMING
Wainoni Road bridge – early October short term closure
The Wainoni Road bridge connecting Wainoni with New Brighton Road will be closed to all vehicle traffic for one month, early October. Cyclists and pedestrians will still have access. SCIRT’s Fulton Hogan team will repair the earthquake damage to the bridge, reinstate the bridge approaches (surface roading), repair the footpaths and install new kerb and channel. Alternative routes for traffic during the road closure month will be via the Anzac Drive bridge or take Pages Road bridge on to New Brighton Road.
Addington / Middleton / Tower Junction – a year of work about to start October
Read our work notice for this major block of wastewater and storm water work about to start on some busy roads to the south and west of Hagley Park. Wherever possible, most of this work in busy intersections (eg Whiteleigh/ Barrington/ Lincoln Road) will take place at weekends and outside the peak hours. Two-way traffic will be maintained but it will be slower around the work sites. Hills Road, Shirley – end of September
Hill Road at the intersection with Whitehall St, will be reduced to one-lane in a week’s time. Access will be maintained for northbound traffic (travelling towards Marshland Rd). Motorists heading south towards the city will be detoured via surrounding streets (Dawe, Skipton and Acheson Ave).
