Three Auckland venues judged New Zealand’s best in national hospitality awards

The Jet Park Hotel &Conference Centre in Auckland has been judged as the Supreme Champion in this year’s Hospitality New Zealand Awards for Excellence – spearheading a series of winning accolades for hospitality venues in the city.

As well as taking out the Supreme Champion award, the Jet Park Hotel & Conference Centre also won the Sustainable and Ethical Practice category, and the Excellence in Training and Staff Development category.

Two other Auckland venues also won accolades at the Hospitality New Zealand Awards for Excellence which were announced at the organisation’s national conference held in Rotorua on September 18.

Mairangi Bay bar Dark Horse won the Best TAB Venue class, while Ponsonby hospitality hot spot Chapel Bar and Bistro won the Best Bar Category.

Hospitality New Zealand chief executive officer Bruce Robertson said the calibre and breadth of winners at this year’s awards reflected the healthy state of the wider hospitality industry for those businesses which had invested in keeping ahead of their competition.

"Hospitality, like any economic sector, relies on a combination of innovation, professionalism, rigorous business practices, and a liberal dash of commitment and passion to generate ongoing success," Mr Robertson said.

"The Jet Park Hotel & Conference Centre, Dark Horse and Chapel Bar and Bistro display these attributes and pre-requisites in abundance – placing them clearly at the forefront of their peers.

"The New Zealand public, and indeed international visitors too, can take every confidence that their patronage at these three winning Auckland establishments will be rewarded with outstanding and memorable experiences.

"These three worthy winners are a credit - not only to their industry and to Auckland, but also to New Zealand as a whole, and truly represent the best that this country has to offer."

The Hospitality New Zealand Awards for Excellence encompass 15 categories featuring all sectors of the industry – from country pubs, gaming operations and five star hotels, through to bars, restaurants, and cafes.

The Hospitality New Zealand Awards for Excellence are judged over a seven week period by a panel of independent industry professionals who assess every competitor on a range of commercial and operational criteria – including staff training and human resources, customer service, marketing and promotional activities, and the demonstration of business growth.
