Crowdfunding Project Launch

Published: Thu 18 Sep 2014 01:50 PM
NZ Landcare Trust is involved in the launch of an exciting new global crowdfunding initiative on the Pozible website today.
The 'Landcare and Environment Collection' is a new initiative on the Pozible website that will start with 25 projects from across the globe. One of which is NZ Landcare Trust's Waikato based project 'Saving New Zealand's Native Fish' which aims to raise funds to help increase the spawning success of native New Zealand freshwater fish in Gibbon Creek, Hamilton.
Projects in the 'Landcare and Environment Collection' hope to attract support, funding pledges and donations from people anywhere in the world.
Crowdfunding is the relatively new, and exciting, internet phenomenon where project representatives pitch a project onto the Pozible website, market their campaign through their networks and social media, receive pledges for funding from the ‘crowd’, then, if they meet their funding target, the donations are transferred to the project proponent to go ahead and fund the work.
NZ Landcare Trust CEO Nick Edgar said: "Freshwater is a topical issue in New Zealand, where the communities we work with are playing a key role in delivering positive change. We hope crowdfunding will present an innovative method of helping support this valuable work."
Australian Landcare International Chairman Rob Youl said "Landcare and environment projects all around the world are so important for communities, for small-scale agriculture, for protecting wildlife, for community development and for looking after the land and environment. Landcare has started up in about 25 countries around the world. The wonderful projects in the Collection need just a little support, from a lot of people, to make the dreams of grassroots communities start to work."
Pozible Co-Founder and Director Alan Crabbe says that launching the Environment category and the Landcare & Environment Collection is an exciting development for Pozible, which has already seen its fair share of successful projects.
“We have already hosted a number of amazing projects on Pozible which have made a real difference to the environment, from environmentally friendly farming methods, to documentaries focused on saving national forests from destruction and helping launch an eco-friendly wool industry in Australia. Launching this category through a partnership with Landcare just takes this commitment one step further and takes it to the world of community environment and Landcare projects,” said Mr. Crabbe.
