WAITANGIRUA RESIDENTS URGED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF VILLAGE PLANNING
Waitangirua residents are being encouraged to come together at the next “Cuppa tea” community meeting to kick-start a village planning process to develop their neighbourhood. .
“Waitangirua is one of the few villages in Porirua that does not have a village plan or a formal residents group working to improve the area through our Village Planning Programme, says Cr Izzy Ford.
“I really hope that such a group might develop through these “Cuppa Tea” meetings being held for residents and organisations working in the area. It’s a chance for them to network and share their ideas.”
The next “Cuppa Tea” meeting is being held at 10am on Thursday, September 25 in the Wesley Community Action officers at Waitangirua Mall (Niagara St entrance).
Cr Ford says the community of Waitangirua has successfully worked together in the past to develop the Waitangirua Community Park in partnership with the Village Planning Programme and since then there have been several community fairs days, and residents have worked on murals, fence painting and a clean-up of the park.
“However, there is still no formal group of residents working together to take advantage of this village planning partnership with Council.”
Thirteen Porirua villages are actively involved in village planning which encourages residents to decide how they want their neighbourhood improved and then partner with the Council to make it happen.
