Four people are in police custody after two South Auckland service stations were raided early this morning.
At about 1:30 am a car which had previously been reported stolen was driven into the shop door of the Z Energy service station on Mount Wellington Highway Mount Wellington. Three people from the car forced their way into the shop and stole drinks and confectionary. The shop assistant, who fled to a back room during the attack was uninjured.
About 30 Minutes later the same group made a similar raid on the Challenge station on Station Road Papatoetoe. Once again the car was driven into the front of the shop, causing the attendant to seek refuge in the rear of the shop.
Shortly after leaving the second service station the car was seen by a police patrol driving along Station Road. The patrol attempted to stop it. The driver did not stop and the car was chased by Police until it failed to negotiate the intersection of Station and Portage Roads where it crashed into and destroyed a phone box. The four occupants of the car were uninjured and arrested at the scene.
They are currently speaking to Counties Manukau police regarding a number of matters.
