Powerboat hits rocks near Gore Bay

Canterbury Police Search and Rescue and Maritime Operations Centre received a distress call from a powerboat south of the Hurunui just before 4pm this afternoon. The powerboat has hit rocks and is taking on water.
A nearby fishing vessel, the Jessie Jay, went to aid of the powerboat at 4.50pm. The Jessie Jay has provided the powerboat with a pump and is currently escorting it to Lyttleton Harbour.
Police are not making any further comment at this time.
