Iconic Spring Event Will Showcase the Best of Region’s New Wines
The Nelson New Release Tasting Event is a chance for local wine lovers to sample the best of the region’s newly released
wines before they even hit the shelves.
Now in its seventh year, the iconic spring event organised by Wine Nelson (formerly Nelson Wineart) takes place at The
Boathouse, Wakefield Quay, Nelson on Tuesday 30 September 2014 from 5.30pm-7.30pm. This year’s event brings together 20
family vineyards and over 100 exquisite wines. Wine lovers will be able to enjoy fine wine, gourmet nibbles and live
music on the deck as the sun sets.
Wine Nelson Marketing Manager Andrea McLeay says it’s a chance for locals to meet the people behind their favourite wine
labels and chat with them about their new releases.
“We recognise that local people are some of our best customers and we want to give them the chance to sample these new
wines first. It really is a unique opportunity to sample the majority of Nelson's new releases under one roof,” she
says.
Local wine lovers will be able to taste some of New Zealand's best Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and aromatics, including
lesser known and interesting varieties such as Gruner Veltliner.
Judy Finn of Neudorf Vineyard says the Nelson New Release Tasting is always an exciting time for wine producers.
“It’s a great chance for local producers to taste each other’s wines, meet the people who will be serving them in
restaurants and meet with the public. It’s a great opportunity to see what everyone has made of the vintage. It’s like a
great cocktail party really – everyone’s tasting wine, talking and comparing notes.”
Neudorf Vineyards will have their Maggie’s Block Pinot Gris, Rosé, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Viognier available for
tasting at the event. Judy Finn says that 2014 was a very “generous season”.
“We thought the fruit from 2014 was very supple, very unctuous. It wasn’t a lean year. I think the wines, will be well
received. It wasn’t a challenging vintage. The wines are quite fruity, ripe and generous.”
Entry to the Nelson New Release Tasting Event is by ticket only, available online through www.winenelson.co.nz. Tickets
are limited and cost $35. This includes gourmet nibbles, live music and the opportunity to taste through the wines.
