Barnardos New Zealand supported by local Ice Bucket Challenge
A mate’s good experience with Barnardos prompted Taranaki man to tip a bucket of ice water on his head.
Ben Evans of Stratford took on the Ice Bucket Challenge and chose Barnardos as his charity.
Formerly from the United Kingdom, he knew about the great work of Barnardos in his home country.
“I chose to donate to Barnardos as they offer excellent services to children at needed times”.
Here in New Zealand he saw that great work through Barnardos New Zealand’s supervised contact service.
The service offers a parental contact service in a controlled, safe and caring environment for children to feel comfortable in, as they make contact with, or reconnect with a parent or relative.
He says the experience was a very positive one for his friend as he went through a difficult marriage break up.
“Barnardos helped my friend get back in touch with his children and facilitated supervised contact. He now has custody of the children.” Says Ben.
With music by Lorde, the YouTube clip of his challenge is set in the scenic Taranaki countryside including the ultimate challenge on the icy slopes of Mount Taranaki.
