CBD Gladstone Road repairs commencing
Repairs on up to 800m2 of pavement in the city centre will commence tonight.
Sections of Gladstone road between Customhouse and Derby streets and at the intersections of Derby, Grey and Peel
Streets are scheduled to be completed in stages over the next two weeks.
Defective pavement will be milled out and re-laid with asphalt over night shifts from 8pm – 6am.
“In cases where we cannot repave in the same night, signage will be out to warn motorists and areas will be laid in the
following shift.” Says Mo Ruru, Fulton Hogan roading maintenance manager.
Milled repairs are 40mm deep, any unfilled patches will be marked with paint, “uneven” signs and speed restrictions will
be in place during the day.
“We will put cones out along the kerb line as we begin each section and ask people not to park in these areas to
minimise the risk to vehicles.” Traffic diversions will also be in place overnight.
Fulton Hogan are notifying all business owners while work is being carried out on the main route all existing parking
will still be available during normal business hours.
The repairs are scheduled as part of Council’s road maintenance programme. “We appreciate works are inconvenient to many
city users but we hope any disturbance is minimal,” Says Dave Hadfield, General Manager of Tairawhiti Roads for Gisborne
District Council.
Some work is still to be done at Fitzherbert St Roundabout during this time also.
