Three teens in hospital following explosion

Three teens in hospital following explosion

Counties Manukau Police attended an incident last night which has resulted in three teenagers being admitted to hospital with serious burns.

At 11:11pm last night emergency services were called to an address in Ferguson St, Mangere East where an explosion had taken place. It is believed that the three teens were huffing from aerosol cans and a fire started when a cigarette was lit.

Two girls aged 14 and 15, and a boy aged 17, are in hospital with serious injuries.

The explosion was so severe that curtains from the bedroom were found in a neighbouring property.

Police say inhaling from aerosol cans is a highly dangerous activity that can have disasterous consequences.

“This is a tragic event that that has resulted in three young people receiving very serious injuries. Huffing is an extremely risky practice which is fraught with danger,” says Counties Manukau Police West Area Prevention Manager Inspector Dave Glossop.

“Police are taking the matter seriously and will be interviewing witnesses to establish exactly what happened at the address before it is decided if any charges will follow.”
