Horowhenua Hospital sold
Horowhenua Hospital sold
MidCentral District Health Board has confirmed the sale by tender of the former Horowhenua Hospital and grounds.
The hospital closed in 2007 when the Horowhenua Health Centre opened on adjacent land, also in Liverpool Street.
As well as the expansive hospital buildings the land comprises 8.1878ha.
MDHB approved the disposal of the hospital in December 2009, subject to the Minister of Health’s approval. That approval was received in July 2010, subject to the board complying with all statutory and other requisite clearance processes.
These requirements were undertaken and Horowhenua Hospital was discharged from the Crown’s obligation to protect Maori interests in June 2013. The site was also released from the Sites of Significance process.
The property was put out for tender and sold for an undisclosed amount by Nai Harcourts in Palmerston North.
The sale was confirmed on 27 August.
The developer, who does not want to be named, said he was looking at the property with a view to it being refurbished.
