Auckland Mayor opens Potters Park Events Centre

A new charitable company owned by Auckland Deaf Society Foundation Trust

Auckland Mayor Len Brown officially launched Potters Park Events Centre, a charitable company set up by the Auckland Deaf Society Foundation Trust (ADSFT) to offer venue hire facilities last night.

Called Potters Park Event Centre (PPEC), the new entity will operate the society’s newly renovated and fully serviced event venue space with all profits going back to the Auckland Deaf community.

Cutting the ribbon on the venue, Len Brown commended the Auckland Deaf Society Foundation Trust on its approach to raising critical funds for the Auckland Deaf community with the establishment of PPEC.

“The launch of PPEC not only provides ongoing funding for the Deaf community but offers Auckland a quality events venue,’ Len Brown said.

Located on the first floor of the Auckland Deaf Society’ Foundation Trust’s premises at 164 Balmoral Rd in Mt Eden, PPEC’s managing director, Catherine Murray, says the vision to transform the venue was twofold.

““While the first floor of the Foundation Trust’s premises were hired out for events in the past, we saw a gap in the current Auckland event market for a professional, premium and personalised celebration and business event venue space of its size,” says Ms Murray.

“The Auckland Deaf Society Foundation Trust also realised that it could help raise more funds for the members its serves – Auckland’s Deaf community – by better utilising its premises.

The space has undergone a compete transformation and is now a premium event venue hire facility for Auckland.

Completely renovated and redecorated the space has one large celebration hall holding 100 to 150 people, and two meeting rooms which can cater for 30 and 50 people respectively.

Professional multi-media equipment has been installed to provide a complete solution for business meetings, training sessions or presentations.

“We have also appointed a full time, experienced senior event manager who can ensure all events held at PPEC are professional and personalised,” says Ms Murray.

Celebrating the opening of PPEC with the Mayor were members of the Albert-Eden Local Board Chair, the Auckland Deaf Society, New Zealand Sign Language community, representatives of the Kelston Deaf Education Centre and members of the media and surrounding business community.
