Blossom Ride set to brighten up the i-Way network

The second annual Hastings Blossom Ride is all set to roll out on Sunday 14 September.

The Blossom Ride is the ride that literally grows each year with proceeds going towards the planting of trees along the i-WAY cycle trail network. This year the ride starts and ends at the New Zealand Edible Garden Show in the Waikoko Gardens at the Hawke’s Bay A&P Showgrounds.

For $10 participants (Children 10 and under free) get entry to the ride, eligibility for great spot prizes including a $600 bike from Revolution Bikes in Havelock North along with entertainment and lunch deals at three designated ‘Blossom Stop Cafes’ (Tandem, the Bivvy and Zepplin Café) on the way.

The 20KM ride will take entrants to Clive via Whakatu, the Pakowhai Country Park and the Waitangi Wetlands near Hohepa, then back to the Showgrounds via SH2 and the Clive river trail.

The 33Km route heads to Havelock North via St Georges Road, along Te Mata Road to the Tuki Tuki River Trail under Black Bridge to the East Clive Wetlands and then back to the Showgrounds via SH2 and the Clive river trail.

Register for either distance or you can decide which route you want to take depending on your mood on the day.

Hastings Deputy Mayor Cynthia Bowers says “The Blossom Ride is a fantastic way to welcome in spring on the cycle trails. I invite all Hawke’s Bay cyclists to join what promises to be a great ride and help us further beautify the district. The i-Way network offers so much visual beauty and it will become even more appealing with the addition of more trees.”

The Blossom Ride is an i-Way initiative, supported by Hastings District Council and is part of the 2014 Blossom Festival.
