Council’s commercial commitment goes live
Upper Hutt City Council has launched an online commercial portal to support growth and success in its commercial sector.
UPPER HUTT, Wellington NZ, 28 AUG 2014— The Upper Hutt City Council unveiled its latest website and premiered a
promotional video to a group of Upper Hutt business leaders at a special launch function at Expressions Arts and
Entertainment Centre on Wednesday night, 27 August. The website (www.biz.upperhuttcity.com) is Council’s latest addition to their suite of strategies, resources, and incentives developed to attract investment
in the local economy. As well as hosting the promotional video, the site offers comprehensive information for potential
investors or businesses about the distinct advantages and opportunities available in Upper Hutt. It also features case
studies of successful local businesses and identifies commercial properties currently available for development or
lease.
“Both the website and the promotional video profile local business excellence,” says Upper Hutt City Council’s economic
development manager, Phil Gorman. “The stories profiled demonstrate the capacity for success in Upper Hutt and should
inspire many more to make the decision to set up business here.”
Complementing the new website and promotional video is a business prospectus that describes the Upper Hutt commercial
proposition, profiles the local economy and performance by key sectors. It also promotes the unique attributes of the
Upper Hutt lifestyle, which is a strong motivation for potential large employers.
“Across New Zealand employment growth has been modest,” says Upper Hutt Mayor, Wayne Guppy. “Auckland and Christchurch
have seen the most growth, each for different reasons, while the rest of the country has seen less than ten per cent
growth. Wellington is firmly in this ten per cent; however we are confident that by promoting our commercial
opportunities, coupled with an advantageous lifestyle for staff, Upper Hutt will contribute significantly to changing
this trend.”
This suite of resources are part of Councils economic development strategy to support sustainable economic growth,
increase employment opportunities in Upper Hutt, and attract skilled new residents to the city.
