Len Brown's Parallel Universe
28 AUGUST 2014
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Responding to today’s announcement by Auckland Mayor Len Brown of longterm funding cuts and rate hikes, Taxpayers’ Union Executive Director Jordan Williams says:
"The 10 year plan outlined today will come as another blow to former Auckland City Council residents, many of whom have been whacked with rates increases of more than 30% since Mr Brown took power."
“The announcement that rates will rise to an average of 3.5% after two years lays bare the high debt and high spending legacy that Aucklanders will be lumped with well after Mr Brown is gone.”
"Earlier this week Len Brown was on TV 3’s Firstline, saying Auckland’s finances are in 'excellent shape’. Today he faces the grim reality.
"How can ratepayers have any faith in a Mayor who calls Auckland’s debt ‘conservative' one day, and then announces cuts and rate rises the next? Len Brown appears to live in a parallel financial universe."
