Key recommendations from Environmental Committee
Key recommendations from Environmental Committee
Christchurch City Council's Environmental Committee met today. The Committee's main recommendations were:
New sites for Riccarton Super Stop being explored
A range of sites will be explored for the location of a bus Super Stop between Matipo Street and Clarence Street. Riccarton Road is the busiest bus corridor in Christchurch with more than 2,800 passengers daily using bus stops near the Westfield Shopping Centre. The Council was unable to secure a short-term lease of car park land from Westfield, so it is looking at alternative sites on Riccarton Road between Clarence and Matipo Streets to provide comfortable waiting areas with up-to-date travel information and Wi-Fi facilities. The Super Stop will be designed to cater for expected growth in passenger numbers after the "hub and spokes" model is introduced in December 2014.
Changes to Northlands public transport hub
A
resource consent granted to Northlands Mall owners Kiwi
Income Property Trust (KIPT) may see improved facilities at
the public transport hub on Main North Road. The resource
consent allows KIPT to extend the mall to Main North Road on
condition it includes a passenger waiting lounge in the
building. As a result on-street bus stops would move. Staff
will report back with design concepts for the lounge and bus
stops as well as investigate options to improve the
pedestrian safety. Staff will also continue to review
potential longer-term public transport options for the
area.
