Rotary Browns Bay Announce New Community Walk
Rotary Browns Bay is thrilled to reveal the details of the first Long Bay Spring Step Out, which aims to get hundreds of
people supporting local health services.
A fun family event, the Spring Step Out will be held on 12 October to encourage people to get out and enjoy the beauty
of Long Bay while supporting a worthy local cause.
Rotary Browns Bay is hoping to raise over $10,000 for the Well Foundation to put towards the Ultrasound Procedural
Training Unit they are currently fundraising for.
With local hero, Allison Roe, confirmed as the first entry to the walk to show her support and fly the Well Foundation
flag high, Rotary Browns Bay is hoping to attract entrants of all ages keen to walk alongside this sporting great.
“We’re overjoyed to have Allison lead the way – what a fantastic way to kick off!” says Browns Bay Rotary club
President, Tony Hooks. “She is a well-known face and an inspiration to many and we do hope the local community will take
the opportunity to join her on the walk.”
The walking track is a stunning scenic route which begins at Long Bay College taking walkers through the Long Bay
Regional Park, right up to the final turnaround mark at Piripiri Point above the Okura River. The full walk is 13km but
three other distances, 6km, 8.5km, and 11km, are marked on the course to offer walking options to suit every age and
fitness level.
In addition to having Allison involved, Rotary Browns Bay is happy to have found a perfect cause to support with event
proceeds.
“The Well Foundation’s objective of boosting health and wellbeing in Auckland’s north and west aligns perfectly with our
goals for the event; to encourage people to lead an active and healthy lifestyle and get out to enjoy the fresh air and
outdoors,” says Hooks.
Well Foundation CEO, Andrew Young, is pleased to be chosen as the recipient charity of the event, particularly because
it is family-friendly and is so inclusive of the wider community. This reflects the foundation’s role, as the official
fundraising body to the Waitemata District Health Board, which supports a huge population and many different
communities.
“We’re wrapped to be the chosen charity for the Rotary Spring Step Out and excited to be working alongside Rotary Browns
Bay for this exciting inaugural event,” says Young.
The walk will kick off from 8.30am with cash/eftpos registrations on the day from 7.30am. After the walk, a sausage
sizzle and drinks will be available for sale at the college for entrants to refuel and relax.
The Long Bay Spring Step Out is proudly supported by Todd Property Group and Bayleys Real Estate who are kindly covering
the general running costs of the event.
