Wellington Airport Regional Community Award Finalists
Volunteer groups in Porirua were recognised for their services to the people of Porirua in the Wellington Airport
Regional Community Awards announced last night.
Porirua Mayor Nick Leggett thanked all the finalists for their hard work and dedication.
“We are lucky to have such dedicated community volunteers here in Porirua. Their work makes a huge difference to the
lives of many in our city and contributes to Porirua’s unique sense of community.”
These annual awards recognise the valuable contribution of volunteers to community groups across the Wellington Region,
across five categories – Art & Culture, Education & Child Youth Development, Health & Wellbeing, Heritage & Environment and Sport & Leisure.
The Supreme Winner for Porirua, Partners Porirua Charitable Trust, was also the winner of the Education & Child Youth Development category. Mana Parents Centre was runner up.
Other category winners were:
Health & Wellbeing: Pregnancy Help Inc. Runner Up - Tuahine Toa.
Heritage & Environment: Guardians of Pauatahanui Inlet. Runner Up - NZ Green Bike Trust.
Sport & Leisure: Porirua Park Run. Runner Up - Porirua Canoe Kayak Club.
Art & Culture: Virtuoso Strings Charitable Trust.
The Supreme Winner, Partners Porirua Charitable Trust, and all category winners will represent Porirua at the Wellington
Awards later in the year. The winner from those awards will then go onto represents the Wellington region at the
National Trust Power Community Awards.
The awards are an initiative of Wellington Community Trust who in partnership with Wellington International Airport
Limited and the five local councils – Upper Hutt, Hutt Valley, Wellington, Porirua & Kapiti – recognise the work carried out by community groups in the wider Wellington region.
