Four days left to vote
Voters have until noon on Friday to elect the Shirley–Papanui ward’s latest Community Board member.
The by-election is a postal ballot, and voting forms need to be received by Electoral Officer Clare Sullivan by noon on Friday 29 August.
“The forms have been out for more than two weeks, and we’ve had 9597 of them returned – which comes to 23.38 per cent,” Ms Sullivan says.
“Like any election, votes tend to flood in at the last minute, but voters in the Shirley–Papanui ward need to keep in mind that their forms really need to be in the post by Wednesday at the latest to be absolutely sure they get to me in time.”
Three candidates are standing for election to the Community Board – Jo Byrne, Lynda Goodrick and Emma Rawson. Preliminary results will be announced on the afternoon of Friday 29, with the successful candidate representing and acting as an advocate for the interests of their community.
Special voting facilities for people who have lost or not received their voting papers, or are on the unpublished roll, will be available at Papanui Service Centre at the corner of Langdons Road and Restell Street and at the Civic Offices, 53 Hereford Street. The facilities will be accessible for the remainder of the voting period.
