Press Release: Lonely Miaow Association Inc.
Auckland Council have issued a Proposed Animal Management Bylaw for public comment up to September 15th.
Cats are referred to on pages 9 to 12 of the Review of Animal Management Bylaws, but are not referred to in the proposed
Animal Management Bylaw 2014. The issue of stray cats and kittens, of which there are many thousands in Auckland, is not
addressed.
The proposal to adopt Option C supported by Options A and B relates to domestic cats only, not to stray cats. It relies
on existing legislation and animal welfare organisations which have significantly failed to resolve the stray cat
situation.
The preference of the Lonely Miaow Association Inc. is to support Option F, New region-wide council service for cat
management, described on pages 11 and 12 of the Review of Animal Management bylaws. This has the stated advantage of
providing assistance to
residents if stray cats are causing a nuisance.
We urge the public to lodge an online submission now on http://www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/EN/licencesregulations/Bylaws
