Horizons community grants applications now open
Applications for Horizons Regional Council’s community grants programme are now open.
The Horizons community grants programme is in its third year with grants available to support community-led projects that help in making the Manawatu-Wanganui Region a great place to live, work and play.
Community groups, schools, early childhood centres and iwi/hapu groups are all eligible to apply for a grant from the $20,000 pool. These will be awarded to projects that enhance the Region and encourage more people to engage with the natural environment.
Horizons media and communications manager Kate Ritani believes the programme is a great way for Horizons to support community groups who are enhancing their area of the Region.
“Sometimes all these groups need is a little support from us to enable their projects to get underway,” says Mrs Ritani.
“A number of groups in the last round had been searching for a way to make their projects happen and receiving a community grant enabled them to do something on their ‘wish list’. Our staff were also available to assist with the project and provide advice and expertise so maximum benefit was achieved from the funding received.”
The last round of grants saw 15 groups from all areas of the Region benefit and included native bush redevelopment, pest control, numerous plantings and development of wetland areas.
The closing date for community grants applications is Friday 3 October. For further information please visit www.horizons.govt.nz or phone Horizons on 0508 800 800.
