Final Week for Bus Feedback
Over 760 people have had their say on the future of Palmerston North’s bus network with just one week left in Horizons
Regional Council’s feedback period.
Horizons presented three potential network options to the community in July based on feedback received from stakeholders
and the general public in 2013.
Known as enhanced status quo, the lollipops and the grid, all three networks would operate between 6.20am and 7.40pm on
weekdays, from 8am to 6pm on weekends and offer late night services from 8 until 11 on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
However, the way services would be run under each option is quite different.
Chair of Horizons Passenger Transport Committee Dr Rachel Keedwell says she’s pleased with the level of response
received but hopes to see even more people get on board during the final days.
“The most popular option appears to be enhanced status quo which seeks to improve our current network. We’re also seeing
a bit of interest in the lollipops network,” she says.
“It’ll be interesting to see if this is reflected in results from our portable voting stations. We are accepting
feedback right up until end of day Monday September 1st so if you’re yet to take a look or get involved you do still
have time.”
People can have their say online via the passenger transport section of Horizons’ website, by voting at the Main Street
terminal using a token collected from their bus driver or by completing a hard copy survey available from Horizons’
office or any Horizons bus driver.
It is important to note that two of the options presented, the lollipops and the grid, also provide different frequency
options.
The only difference between the A and B options for each of these networks is frequency. However, maps have been split
out to make it easier for people to see where buses would go.
Results from the survey will be presented to Horizons Passenger Transport Committee for consideration in November.
