Independent consultant named for Hastings dog control review
Hastings District Council has named John Payne from Tauranga as the independent consultant who will carry out a review of the animal control section.
Hastings Mayor Lawrence Yule called for the review of the operation following public criticism of the council's animal control staff and policies.
Lawrence Yule says “Mr Payne has previously worked for Tauranga City Council as the Environmental Compliance Manager and has a strong knowledge of the dog control regulations and the operation of animal pounds.”
Lawrence Yule says “The terms of reference have been developed to ensure a wide ranging review of the whole operation and I am confident that Mr Payne has the credentials and experience to bring an impartial view to the process.”
Mr Payne has begun work on the review and it is expected that he will have a report ready for Council prior to Christmas 2014.
A copy of the review of the “policy, practices and approaches of the Animal Control Section” is available at www.hastingsdc.govt.nz/files/all/documents/animal-control-review.pdf
