Cycle trails being assessed
Media advisory - cycle trails being assessed
Heavy
rain over the last month has taken a toll on some of the
cycle trails in the Wakatipu and Upper Clutha.
Mike Weaver, QLDC’s Manager of Parks and Commercial Operations, said contractors were placing cones and signage on areas where users needed to be particularly careful because of slumping or slips.
A geotechnical engineer would start an assessing tracks tomorrow, especially stretches along hillsides.
One section of the Clutha River Track, near the Albert Town Bridge, has been closed temporarily so a full assessment can be made. An alternative route is available along the terrace above the river track.
Other affected areas include two stretches of the Twin Rivers trail; between Lake Hayes Estate and Old School Road, and between Lake Hayes Estate and Morven Ferry Road. The Arrowtown Track near Whitechapel is also affected.
Mr Weaver said more information would be available when the assessments had been completed.
