Down and dirty at Hollards as spring nears

With spring just around the corner, some timely advice for home gardeners will be offered at a free public workshop at Hollard Gardens, Kaponga, on Sunday (24 August).

The two-hour session will cover seed sowing and soil testing. Participants will learn how to test the pH of their garden soil and pick up tips for sprouting good seeds and what to prepare for growing in the spring and summer.

Sunday’s workshop will run from 2pm to 4pm at Hollard Gardens, 1686 Upper Manaia Road, Kaponga. Follow the signs to the area dubbed Bernie’s Home Garden. This is a demonstration area where a number of different food growing principles and ideas are put into practice. It is the venue for regular workshops, designed for both the novice and the experienced gardener.

The seed sowing and soil testing workshop is part of a year-round programme of free public events at Hollard Gardens, Pukeiti and Tupare, the three heritage properties owned and managed by the Taranaki Regional Council on behalf of the people of the region.
