Central City - new work
Durham St, Salisbury to Kilmore
The old manholes on Durham St need to be decommissioned so expect delays the week of 18 August. No westbound traffic through the Durham/ Peterborough intersection.
Moorhouse Ave – one lane at night westwards drivers
Be on the lookout for night works for a fortnight along the south side of Moorhouse Ave. Drivers going towards Hagley Park from Pilgrim Place (between Colombo and Manchester) to Antigua St will be restricted to just one lane for McConnell Dowell’s pipe-lining.
Colombo St and Armagh St – Victoria Square
Colombo St at Armagh (Victoria Square) is closed to all traffic except drivers going east on Armagh St who can turn left/ north into Colombo.
Northbound drivers on Colombo St will be detoured at Gloucester and around the river to Armagh St. Southbound drivers will be detoured at Cambridge Tce to Manchester and Gloucester Streets. Traffic management will change along this stretch of Armagh St up until mid November.
Hereford St, from the river/ Oxford Tce to Colombo St
Hereford St will, be one-way, eastbound, for four weeks past the Ibis Hotel as lateral wastewater pipes are replaced. http://strongerchristchurch.govt.nz/work/activity/5404
Antigua St, one-way between Moorhouse Ave and St Asaph St
Antigua St will be one-way, north only in this block. SCIRT’s Downer crew will maintain access into Halkett St.
St Asaph St between Madras/ CPIT corner and Manchester – lane reductions
SCIRT’s Downer crew is repairing badly damaged laterals by trenching from the main pipe in the middle of the road to the property boundary. Lanes will be reduced through this block.
Allen St, opposite CPIT, one way only - Madras Street west to Manchester St
The lateral repairs on the north side of Allen St are completed, Downer will now repair the south side laterals.
Central City - ongoing work
Hospital corner night work 7 pm to 6 am
Please take care at the “hospital corner” end of Tuam St, 7 pm to 6 am, for the next few days. This is the traffic light intersection at Hagley and Riccarton Aves/ Tuam St and Oxford Terrace. Expect traffic changes and for the hospital end of Tuam St to be closed overnight.
Kilmore St
Kilmore St has lane closures between Madras and Colombo Streets for road reconstruction and storm water repairs, up until December.
Peterborough St
The road will be closed to through traffic between Madras and Manchester with full access for residents and businesses. For businesses, there is one-way eastbound traffic flow, enter from Manchester St.
Gloucester St
Gloucester St between Manchester St and Latimer Square is one-way west, towards Latimer.
Madras Street (one-way north)
Madras Street is reduced to one lane in more than one place between Moorhouse and Bealey Aves. Expect delays.
Barbadoes St (one-way south)
Barbadoes St has lane closures for final road reconstruction from south of Bealey Ave/ Melrose St to the river. There is also a lane drop in the block between Cashel and Lichfield Streets.
South City entrance off Durham St
Use Alcester St (just before Bath St), not Winchcombe (on the northern edge of South City).
Hagley Ave (near netball courts) and side streets - parking heads-up
Night works between 6pm and 6am, with no parking on the netball court side.

Outside the Four Aves
Keyes Road/ Bowhill Road, North New Brighton, intersection closed three weeks
This intersection will be closed from Wednesday, 20 August, for about three weeks while the roundabout is reconstructed. Drivers can take Marine Parade or Bower Avenue instead of Keyes Road to get around in New Brighton. The dairy on Bowhill Road and the Frame n Copy shop on Keyes Road are open. http://strongerchristchurch.govt.nz/work/activity/5406
St Andrews Hill Road closed to uphill traffic
SCIRT’s Downer team is carrying out repairs to a retaining wall near the bottom of St Andrews Hill Road. The road will be reduced to one lane around the worksite and will be closed to uphill traffic for another fortnight. Linwood Ave, Dyers Road end, delays, take care around cyclists
SCIRT’s Fletcher team are directional drilling the wastewater pressure main pipe in part of Linwood Ave, from Dyers Road towards Kidbrooke St. The slip lane for north/east travelling drivers into Dyers Road is reopening thisafternoon (Thursday 14 August). Please take care around cyclists as the cycle lane is merging into the live traffic lane along Linwood Ave. Traffic is being diverted around the work area.
Beckenham – Norwood St
Work has started on Norwood St, which will be closed to through traffic between Fisher Ave and Sandwich Road for two more weeks.
Owles Terrace, New Brighton – road closure for eight months
A road closure will be in place on Owles Terrace from the Seaview Road roundabout to just south of Beresford St for around eight months. Fulton Hogan will be installing a new water main, storm water main and wastewater pipe. A detour will be in place along Seaview Road, Hardy and Collingwood Streets.
Gloucester St, between Woodham Road and Surrey St, Linwood
Gloucester St is one-way north in this block, towards Woodham Road.
Aranui/ Wainoni update
• Shortland St, between Wainoni and Pages Roads, is one-way east ie towards Pages.
• Breezes Road remains one way southbound between Lenton St and Cuthberts Road as City Care and Fletcher Construction install the new vacuum wastewater system.
Bromley – Maces Road
The wastewater main leading onto Dyers Road is being replaced by SCIRT’s Downer team. As a result, Maces Road will be southbound only onto Dyers Road for three more weeks. The north-west bound detour is either via Wickham/ Tanya and Newton Streets or Linwood Ave and St Johns St.
Upcoming work - Redcliffs and Mt Pleasant
Main Road Redcliffs closing for a week 25 August
Sumner/ Redcliffs drivers will be detoured onto Beachville Road and Celia St for one week from 25 August. The newly installed pressure pipe needs to be tested and commissioned.
Soleares Ave reopening September, Mt Pleasant Road closing
Soleares Ave, Mt Pleasant will reopen to traffic soon. The goal is 1 September after ten months closure for wall stabilisation and a bridge-type build above the road.
At the same time, Mt Pleasant Road retaining wall work can then begin. This will close that road to traffic near Seamount Terrace. It is currently one-lane around the collapsed wall.
