MEDIA RELEASE: MTG director to resign
14 August, 2014
THE director of MTG Hawke’s Bay will stand down at the end of the year.
Douglas Lloyd Jenkins announced today he will resign in December to pursue other interests.
“After more than eight years in the job, I am extremely proud of my achievements as director of MTG Hawke’s Bay and its predecessor Hawke’s Bay Museum & Art Gallery,” he said.
“However the time is right for me to move on to other challenges and for Napier City Council to seek a new Director to take the institution into the future.”
Mr Lloyd Jenkins said he was committed to launching MTG’s summer exhibition, Whetu Tirikatene-Sullivan Travel in Style next month.
“The show will provide a suitably spectacular end to MTG’s first full year of operation. I’m very proud of it and the effort my staff have put in to making it happen.”
Napier City Council chief executive Wayne Jack said Mr Lloyd Jenkins had been a huge asset to the museum and gallery. “I’d like to thank Douglas for the passion and commitment he has given MTG and Hawke’s Bay Museum & Art Gallery over the last eight years,” Mr Jack said. “His expertise and knowledge has been invaluable. We’ve been lucky to have him at the helm and I wish him well.”
Mr Lloyd Jenkins said he planned to remain in Napier at this stage. “I have some writing projects I wish to pursue, and on which I wish to focus in the new year.”
