Last chance to have your say on Auckland transport networks

Last chance to have your say on the Hibiscus Coast and Warkworth New Network

More than 1,000 people have had their say on the new public transport network for the Hibiscus Coast and Warkworth so far, and to give people one last opportunity to submit their views over the weekend we're extending the deadline for the Hibiscus Coast consultation to this coming Monday 18 August. Give your feedback via the online feedback form.

“Involvement from the community has been strong,” says Anthony Cross, Public Transport Network Manager, “however we don’t want people to miss out on having their views heard, so we have decided to extend the closing date for submissions from tonight (5pm Thursday 14 August) to 5pm Monday 18 August, which is also when final submissions are due for Warkworth.”

Over the last four weeks there’s been over 14 Auckland Transport events held across the Hibiscus Coast and Warkworth to engage with the community, answer questions and encourage people to submit their views. Turnout has been positive, with between 150 to 200 people turning out at a number of events.

What has been the feeling amongst the community?
“At the start many people were unsure what the changes meant for them, if this would be a benefit or not, but now submissions have been showing that more than 70 % of the people giving feedback are supporting or strongly supporting the New Network. We are getting some clear trends coming through on key issues that need to be worked through, but overall people seem to be happy that public transport is being improved,” says Yvonne Gwyn, PT Planner - Engagement.

A detailed consultation report outlining the issues raised by submitters, and the resolutions reached, will be available to the public on our website in the months to come.

So why is it important that people don’t miss out on having their say during New Network consultations?
“It’s critical that people take the opportunity to tell us if the new bus services we are proposing work for them, because now is the time our network planners can make any necessary changes relatively easily,” says Lorraine Maguire, Senior PT Planner – Engagement. “Once the new services are up and running it will be a different story. Also, if there are aspects in our proposals that people feel strongly that we need to change or address, the absolute best way that they can ensure that their view is heard is to use one of our main consultation channels – either the online form or the freepost feedback form in the brochure. In this way their opinions are counted as official submissions and will be effectively analysed by the team and investigated properly. So I greatly encourage anyone who has a view on the New Network being proposed to have their say and submit a feedback form during the consultation period.”
