Want to know more about self-publishing your own e-books?
Palmerston North City Library will be holding an e-publishing workshop on Wednesday 13 August at 7pm.
“The workshop will be presented by Jim Azevedo who is the marketing director for Smashwords,” Library spokesperson Shannon Simpson said. “Smashwords is the world’s largest e-book publishing platform for indie or self-published e-books.”
Shannon says Smashwords serves over 94,000 independent authors, publishers and literary agents. Since 2008, Smashwords has helped authors around the world publish and distribute more than 319,000 titles to retailers such as Apple iBooks, Barnes & Noble, Kobo and Flipkart, as well as to subscription services Oyster and Scribd.
It also distributes to libraries via its partnerships with OverDrive and Baker and Taylor.
By night, Jim Azevedo is the drummer for Rivals, a popular San Francisco Bay Area indie rock band.
“Self-publishing with Smashwords is the best way for local authors to make their e-books available to libraries,” Shannon said. “This is an excellent opportunity for local authors, academics looking to publish electronically, and anyone interested in creating their own e-books.
The workshop will be held in the Sound & Vision area of the Central Library. It is a free event.
