Bus Survey Gets Good Response

Responses are flooding in for Horizons Regional Council’s bus network survey but the Council would like to hear more from those not currently on board.

Three options have been presented in the quest to plan a sustainable network. These are known as enhanced status quo, the lollipops and the grid.

There are two different frequency options for the lollipops and the grid, allowing people to select option A or option B for the frequency they prefer. Respondents can also vote to retain the network as it is.

Chair of Horizons Passenger Transport Committee Rachel Keedwell is delighted with the 526 responses received to date, but with feedback open until September 1st she hopes to hear more from those who do not currently use the bus.

“We’ve had a good mix of online and written responses returned,” Dr Keedwell says.

“75 percent of respondents identified as current bus users, which is fantastic. What we also want to know is what would motivate non-users to get onboard.

“Whether you’re an avid bus user or haven’t really tried them, I encourage you to take the time to look at the proposed networks and let us know your thoughts.”

Information about the options is available online via Horizons website. Brochures outlining the options and providing a copy of the survey are also available from all Horizons bus drivers and the Horizons Office at 15 Victoria Avenue.

Surveys can be completed online or returned via post. There’s also the opportunity to vote at the Main Street terminal by collecting a token from any Horizons bus driver.

People can have their say on the future of Palmerston North’s bus network until 5pm Monday 1 September. This feedback will be presented to Horizons Passenger Transport Committee in November.
