Hawkins awarded Stage One contract for foundation work of Rangiora Health Hub
Hawkins Constructions has begun work on the Rangiora Health Hub after winning the contract for the foundation work,
which is Stage One of the multi-million dollar project.
David Meates, Canterbury DHB chief executive, says the community will have already noticed some activity on the site.
“We're very pleased Hawkins Construction have been awarded the contract for site foundations and have started moving
equipment to the site in preparation of starting work,” Mr Meates says.
“The staff at Rangiora Hospital are very excited by the activity and both they and the community no doubt will be
keeping a close eye on the construction of phase one of the Hub over the next few months.”
Mr Meates says the new Rangiora Health Hub building is around 2000m2, single storey, 16 bed unit, plus an outpatients’
facility.
Hawkins have won the contract for Stage One and the second stage will be tendered very soon.
The New Rangiora Health Hub will service a wide catchment area of people in the Waimakariri and Hurunui districts
(population Waimakariri – 49,989 Hurunui – 11,529).
“The new health hub is key to providing the right care in the right place at the right time by the right person to both
existing and new residents to the area.”
Noordanus Architects are the lead consultant for the Rangiora Health Hub and RCP (Resource Coordination Partnership) is
project managing the development.
Services to be included in the new Rangiora health Hub include community health providers, NGOs, specialist outpatient
services, maternity services, mental health services, public health nurses. The Maternity unit will be the first part to
be built.
Construction is expected to be complete mid-way through 2015.
