NZ Cup and Show Week tickets on sale tomorrow
The countdown to the country’s most vibrant and exciting spring festival has begun, with tickets to New Zealand Cup and Show Week on sale from tomorrow.
The festival and highlight of New Zealand’s racing calendar kicks off on 8 November this year.
Richard Attwood, Events Development Manager, Christchurch City Council, says it pays to be organised and get in early for Canterbury’s most anticipated line-up of racing carnivals and social events.
“Now is the time to get friends together and start planning your week. Tickets for some of the events are cheaper the sooner you buy, so it really does pay to be an early bird,” he says.
“This year’s festival is all about celebrating the thrill of a win, enjoying a day out with friends, experiencing rural life at the show, dressing to the nines, tasting our region’s excellent food and wine, and simply coming together as a community to have some fun.”
The Sothys New Zealand 2000 Guineas Day at Riccarton Park Racecourse marks the official start of NZ Cup and Show Week and promises to give punters and revellers alike a great taste of what lies ahead.
The newest event in this year’s line-up is the Professional Bull Riders New Zealand Cup. On 13 November, 22 elite bull riders will compete in an adrenalin-pumping, man-versus-beast sporting event like no other.
Also making its debut this year is Hat and Hair Art, an event that celebrates the creative brilliance of New Zealand’s leading hat and hair artists. On 8 and 9 November, radical headwear and hairstyles will hit the catwalk and compete to win prizes and prestige.
All up, between 8 and 15 November, Christchurch will play host to nine spectacular events, including the Canterbury A Show, the much-anticipated Christchurch Casino NZ Trotting Cup Day at Addington Raceway, and the Christchurch Casino NZ Cup and Bloodstock 1000 Guineas Day at Riccarton Park Racecourse.
