Parking Discussion Submissions close on Thursday
Aucklanders have just two more days to have a say on the future of parking, submissions on the Draft Parking Discussion
Document close on Thursday.
So far just under 2000 submissions have been received. There have also been a large number of face to face briefings
with organisations throughout the region.
The draft document identifies parking problems affecting the entire region and it discusses some possible ways to fix
them, this is the first time all aspects of parking in Auckland have been reviewed.
The Parking Discussion Document looks at the use of Park and Rides, residential parking zones, managing on and off
street parking in the central city and on arterial roads and parking in town centres.
Auckland Transport’s General Manager Strategy and Planning, Peter Clark says, “Parking affects everyone in the region in
one way or another. We are aiming to set a clear and consistent direction for Auckland’s parking future, which will be
good for all road users, nearby businesses and residents. Aucklanders are sharing what is increasingly a scarce resource
as our city grows and develops”.
Once the submission process closes, submissions will be categorised and grouped to identify key themes. Proposed
responses will be developed ready for consideration and review by Auckland Transport’s Board. Once the review is
completed, a high level Parking Strategy with a key set of parking principles will be developed. Starting next year,
detailed and localised consultation with local boards, councillors, communities and business groups will be undertaken.
It is expected this phase may take approximately 18 months to two years but some parts will be quicker than others to
implement.
