Friday target to re-open SH1 link in Northland
The NZ Transport Agency says good progress is being made on repairs to State Highway 1 on the Brynderwyn Hills in Northland.
“Everything will depend on the weather and our final safety checks, but we are on track to have our repairs completed on Friday evening so that we can re-open both lanes to all traffic,” says the Transport Agency’s Regional Journey Manager Jacqui Hori-Hoult.
The highway was closed when heavy rain at the weekend caused an underslip affecting 20 metres of the main road link between Northland and Auckland.
“There’s still a lot of work to be done, but we are aware of the disruption the closure is causing and working as hard we can to wrap everything up before the weekend.”
Until the highway is re-opened, people driving north are advised to use SH12 and Paparoa-Oakleigh Road. Those heading south can travel through Waipu and Mangawhai. The detours will add between 30 and 40 minutes to travel times.
The Transport Agency reminds all drivers that the detours are rural roads and to take care and observe speed limits. ENDS
