Council opens consultation on five bylaws
The Council has opened consultation on proposed changes to five bylaws. The five proposed bylaws are:
Cruising and Prohibited Times on Roads Bylaw 2014
The proposal intends to extend from 60 minutes to four hours, the period within which ‘cruising’ drivers cannot
repeatedly travel along the same section of a road. This would prevent ‘cruising’ on the same section of road between
10pm and 5am.
Parks and Reserves Bylaw 2014
The proposed bylaw includes new controls on activities that might affect a reserve or other users of a reserve, and more
detailed provisions for sporting and other organised events. Activities that are permitted by a management plan or
resource consent are exempt from the bylaw.
Traffic and Parking Amendment Bylaw 2014
This amendment would provide for shared paths and spaces, where pedestrians and cyclists share the same space.
Urban Fire Safety Bylaw 2014
The proposal would see controls on fireworks introduced for the first time, as well as new exemptions for a range of
cooking appliances such as pizza ovens.
Water Supply, Wastewater and Stormwater Bylaw 2014
This proposal would require new homes and commercial buildings in some parts of Banks Peninsula to install rain water
storage to be used for toilets, gardens and emergencies. In addition, all city and Banks Peninsula connections to the
Council’s stormwater system would have to meet certain standards.
